Here are the turnarounds I made for the Machina recently featured on Sister Claire. I like how the design came out! It was inspired by mecha anime (the design largely influenced by “Big O”) and weeping statues.
The idea of the Annulus (Latin for “ring”) being used to awaken the Machina and make a pact with it is meant to represent marriage, specifically the nun’s marriage to G.O.D.
I wanted to mention this in the page, but there was no space for it: An interesting fact about the Annuli is that they cannot be removed once a pact with a Machina is formed. This is to ensure loyalty. Older women with missing ring fingers are suspected of being traitors who cut their fingers off to end a contract. They will usually wear gloves and/or prosthetics to hide the fact.
