Sick, sick, go away, come again another- NO DON’T COME BACK
I’ve used SO many Kleenex in the past week, I’m pretty sure I have blown my nose on a whole tree.
For the last 4 nights or so, I’ve slept an average of 4 hours each night, due to massive congestion/throat trouble. I seemed to be slowly getting better, but the discomfort/difficulty breathing was sill sufficient to force me out of bed around 6am today. In desperation I took the only anti-congestion meds we have, which immediately put me into a zombie-like, blank-minded state, in which I watched 3 hours of Faulty Towers without actually taking in any of it, and then somehow I ended up back in my bed and slept until 4pm.
I avoided coffee, because I know it’s not good to mix uppers and downers. It’s now 7pm and I finally feel more or less normal, aside from destroying trees with my constipated nose.
On the upside, I have taken a good chunk out of the next Sister Claire page. I’m soooo looking forward to getting this Atlantis scene over! I mean, I love it, but it also takes me 3 times as long to do any pages in this location.

In other news, Gabrielle’s birthday was this week! I totally forgot, but her fans on Facebook didn’t! She sends her love and kisses. <3

Benedryl and Sudafed are both for the runny nose and the congestion, respectively. As it turns out, most anti-histamines are depressants or sedatives, and most decongestants are stims. And yet they are both used for related symptoms of the same illnesses…

Anti-histamines are stuff you take for allergies, or for symptoms similar to those from allergies. Usually taken for colds to dry up a runny nose. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is one of the strongest out there, and oh boy will it knock most people out.
Sudafed (pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine, depending on which variant you use) is a decongestant. You use them to clear up that stuffed-up sensation in nose, sinuses and lungs. Both of these are also stimulants, especially pseudoephedrine, which is apparently a key ingredient in methamphetamines, a.k.a. “meth” or “speed”. (This is why pseudoephedrine products are now regulated in the U.S. when they used to be off-the-shelf. You have to get them from a pharmacist and register and sign for them, and they can only sell you a week’s worth at a time without a prescription for a stronger dose.)
The other stuff you see in cold medicines are expectorants, which make it easier to clear out the stuff that’s gumming up your breathing (drink plenty of water with those), and cough suppressants, which also have been known to make people sleepy.
And of course it is recommended that people taking strong antihistamines or cough suppressants should not drive or operate heavy or dangerous equipment while using this stuff…
