I feel really bad for not updating Sister Claire in so long. T_T
I figured it was time for another little TENDONIATUS UPDATE.
Today I had my appointment with the hand doctor, and he gave me a brace that I’ll have to wear for 3 weeks till my next appointment. Fortunately, it’s removable, so I can take it off to draw and stuff, although he told me to keep it on as often as possible. I can even draw with it… It’s just… very inconvenient. I know it’s annoying to wait this long for the next page, and believe me, I’m the most annoyed of all. The split was really fun to play with for about an hour until dinnertime, when I had trouble getting food in my mouth. XD; Next page will be posted as soon as it is done.
Meanwhile, try not to kill yourselves over the suspense! And if you want to be super-awesome, send in a guest comic! =)

DO NOT REMOVE IT -_-
Everytime you remove your brace a puppy dies!
As long as it’s not a kitten, who cares?
I don’t think it’s annoying at all to wait for the next page for the sake of healing your hand. I would rather you get completely healed instead of risking another injury just to give us timely updates. I’m sure most of your readers feel the same way.
Health always comes first, get yourself all healed up and at 100%, we can entertain ourselves with the archives until then… no doubt there’s some easter eggs I still haven’t found yet ^_^
Man I’ve got a pair of those for each wrist….I have to revert to them if I aggravate my tendonitis/carpal tunnel condition which I suffer in both hands. Some days I’m in a lot of pain and/or my hands go numb and I can’t even hold a pen. I write a few words and then the pen just falls because my grip slackens and I can’t feel it anymore. It’s rotten. Wear it and don’t remove it unless you have to. Usually a few days and I’m fine.
I’ve got the same issue with my wrists. I had a bad bicycle accident when i was a kid and never saw a doctor for it. For years i had to practically live in my wrist braces much like the ones you have there. i really love your comic, and not just because it has my name in the title.
Don’t worry so much! Your wrist is more important than getting updates “on time”. If you keep pushing and keep pushing, you’re going to seriously injure yourself, and then we won’t get ANY comics!! ((SO kidding, I’m not THAT selfish, honest!!)) You just worry about healing, all your REAL fans will wait patiently. Or at least, sort of patiently… ^.^
all I can say is, you’re doing better than I was 15 years ago. Back then, I could barely get a hand doctor to believe that I was in pain because “they could find nothing wrong”. Rotted my stomach out on NSAIDS. the low point was when I couldn’t even hold silverware to feed myself. Not pleasant. End result was the end of an 18 year career as a programmer. to this day I sleep in splints and elbow pads. I still experience times of significant pain when I ignore my hand limits.
If you keep the splints on, if you do what the doctor says, you have a chance of reducing the symptoms to a manageable level. from observing others in addition to my own experience, the problem will never go away but you will be able to manage it. You will need to change input devices and how you use them. You’ll have to use things like speech recognition for text and other operations that can be automated.
This is a life-changing injury for any of us that use our hands in any significant way. It is rather discouraging and that those who are most susceptible (programmers) are the least compassionate and only reluctantly willing to provide any accommodation let alone reasonable accommodation.
I’m sorry about being a downer but things will not be the same. Cartooning, graphic arts are going to be a part of your future because they’re a part of who you are. Same thing is true for me, I still try to write code, limited to Python and I am always hunting up talent to try for making make a better programming environment. But I also write and I can use speech recognition to write what my mind and my soul demands.
Take a look at 10,000 drawings http://10kd.outsidefood.com/ klio was injured and has recovered enough to continue drawing. The artwork is amazing. Hopefully her story can help you find your path forward.
You can recover, you can continue drawing but you must take time to heal now and plan for how you can make your working tools work better for your body.
I really understand and I’m really sorry you have to go through this.
Seriously, don’t be a silly pooh head and get your hand fixed properly first! XD
Get you hand working before you draw anything serious again, i know it’s hard to wait but my mother had a similar thing with her left ankle and then she had to wait another 4 months for still walking around!
My mom has tendonitis and she had a brace recently. She said it was very painful so I can really only imagine. Hope you get better, and seriously, DO NOT strain yourself, I think all your viewers understand that you have a painful medical condition, so take your time, and relax your arm.
DAWWWW, look at your face in that picture >__ so worry not and concentrate on healing!
YOU CAN DO IT! >O<//
…that’s dead sexy.
aww yamino your too dedicated! start slacking so you can heal!
Oh Yamino. I have really enjoyed Sister Claire. Have you thought about going to get massage on your arms to try to heal you as well. If I were near by I would work on your arms for free so you could keep drawing your wonderful comics
I’ve drawn with a brace on before when I got the beginnings of carpal tunnel. It’s not fun. Hope you feel better soon!
