The Evil Cat is actually sent by something that WANTS the world to go into oblivion and KNEW about a girl being the chosen one to birth the Savior, but the cat did not know what little girl would be until Claire was born. The Evil Cat made a first attempt at her life, but failed, only managing to kill her parents. This was when Catherine adopted Claire.
From here, the Evil Cat decided to take upon Catherine’s body as a host in its plan to kill off Claire, first by mentally breaking the poor girl by making the Catherine a magnet for all sorts of near death situations caused by Claire, her clumsiness a residual effect of the Evil Cat’s possession.
Catherine is the only one who KNOWS the existence of the Cat and tries to make her own exorcism of the beast her own private battle. A battle that she seems to be losing as Claire is slowly approaching her destiny…
