I drew this fairly fast, just two hours. It’s not really intended as a finished piece, I did it for practice.

I think I’m starting to finally understand the use of hairbrushes. I’m also trying to get the hang of that “English rose” sleepy eyed face that I want for Sofie. (main character of my upcoming comic, Nightingale.) This isn’t a portrait of Sofie, but she has that same sort of look about her.

I posted this page early, because I might not be able to update on time for next week. I’m moving to the UK for my master’s degree, so things might be hectic till I get settled in. I will post sketches/guest pages if the next page can’t be done in time. =)

Photoshop Hair Brushes SUCK

Ok, I must be doing something wrong, because I really don’t see why people would use these to draw hair with digital paint. They’re horrible! Is there a secret method I’m not understanding here? D:

THIS IS SO UGLY, I WANT TO CRY.

I’m gonna tackle some more hair practice when I get a chance, because I think that’s one of my major challenges in digital painting. I think I’m gonna say SCREW HAIRBRUSHES and try some other tutorials, like this one.

Sofie is the main character, and yet lately I haven’t drawn much of her at all! I am trying to give her that sleepy-eyed, English Rose look. I don’t think I’ve quite succeeded. I should also be less lazy and do more finished art with long hair. I still don’t really know how to draw it properly in 3D with shading/color.

I’m going to start paying closer attention to models like Holly/Ivory Flame, who have the type of classical look I’m going for:

I am so insanely jealous. My brother’s new iMac just arrived, and it’s HUGE. Just in time for him to go off on a 10 day trip to Vienna… and for me to BREAK IT IN FOR HIM. >8D
