I drew this while on a convention trip with Chloé (creator of “Go Get a Roomie“) in Angouleme, France this weekend!  We came up with the idea over dinner and stayed up till 3am drawing it.  There were a lot more jokes we wanted to include, but maybe we’ll save them for a second collaboration.

On Jan 24th, Congress will vote to pass internet censorship in the Senate, even though the vast majority of Americans are opposed. We need to kill the bill – PIPA in the Senate and SOPA in the House – to protect our rights to free speech, privacy, and prosperity. We need internet companies to follow Reddit’s lead and stand up for the web, as we internet users are doing every day.

January 18th, 2012 is the largest internet protest in history, to stop the internet censorship bills, SOPA & PIPA. Join in by blacking out your site and urging everyone you can reach to contact Congress now.

Oh no she didn’t.

“Hey there! So I’m finally reading Sister Claire (been following you for months) and right off the bat I noticed a few similarities between it and Panty and Stocking (the style, bits of the humor, etc.). Since your comic came out beforehand, do you think PSaG was inspired by Sister Claire at all?”

While I’m really flattered by the suggestion, and I do find the combination of the art style and the religious theme to be oddly coincidental, I honestly don’t think so.

Even though the anime came out after Sister Claire debuted, it was in production for years before (possibly predating the concept stage of “Sister Claire”) and I believe the PSWG style was heavily influenced by (or possibly created by the same people as) “Ojamajo Doremi” and “Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z“, both of which were big influences on my own artwork and came out well before “Sister Claire.”

Sister Claire shows its references pretty transparently.  Along with the previously mentioned titles, the style was chiefly inspired by the original Powerpuff Girls and Junko Mizuno’s work:

Who could these mysterious masked nuns possibly be!?  It’s impossible to see through their immaculate disguise.

The next page is coming! I’m taking a break to sleep now, because my vision is swimming and I suspect I caught something from someone on one of the plane rides… But I’ll have this done by tomorrow (Wednesday), for sure.

Here’s a little teaser!  I’m told the final colors for this cover may be tweaked slightly in the final.  Shannon Watters (editor of Boom! comics) requested a more girl-centric cover, so as you can guess I really had a field day with it.

I may be doing more work for the comics in the future, but I’m not sure I can comment on that just yet. Stay tuned, an official announcement on my involvement will be posted around mid-January!

P.S. I’m sure that my outpouring of fanart for Adventure Time is the main reason I got this gig, so let it never be said that fanart, shippy or otherwise, is a waste of time or effort.
