Who knew Olga could be so moe-moe?]]>
The reveal everyone has been awaiting (and many have been expecting!)
Since her conception I had envisioned Oscar as a trans* person, because of the inspiration from her namesake, a gender-defying, favorite hero of mine. However, I wasn't sure if there would ever be a place to reveal it in the comic, or if it would be relevant at all.
My fiancée Ash (who is now a co-writer of the comic) had already helped me plan the bath scene with Claire and Co, which introduces some important foreshadowing about Catharine and Claire's relationship. We decided that rather than pull a J.K. Rowling, we should make a similar scene to reveal information about the other nuns- that Sister Olga is secretly covered in stretch marks, and that Sister Oscar is trans*. As queer people ourselves, we understand how important representation is.
A lot of readers have been leaving comments about their predictions regarding Oscar's body, but there have also been a lot of people expressing a lot of negativity and bigotry. I want this to be a safe place for all readers, and that includes anyone who relates to Sister Oscar and is hurt by transphobic comments. That won't be tolerated, and I'm afraid I'll have to ban people from commenting if they can't be courteous.
For those who are having trouble with this revelation about Oscar, just remember that just because you have new information about someone doesn't mean they have become any different. She might not have the body you expected, but the shape of it does not change her character. She is not now suddenly "a man," she is still Sister Oscar, and will continue to be.]]>
I spy a hot butt!]]>
It's easy to say you're ok in your body when it's all covered up 99% of the time.]]>
*knuckle cracking noises*]]>
Even as a kid Olga wasn't a fan of baths, apparently not much has changed. Luckily for her (and sadly for everyone else) baths are a luxury reclusive nuns aren't afforded very often.]]>
The ruins of the church in this page were inspired by the ruins of Charles Church which I passed every day when I lived in Plymouth it remains a scorched shell as a monument to those who died in the war. The more you know!England. Built in the 1600's and used until the Blitz in WWII ]]>
Littlefoot and his friends used to call it the "Great Valley," but now it's more like "the Swiss Cheese Valley."]]>
It's a bit hard to see, but Olga is carving a wooden stake in the top panel. She's not too worried about her leg-- if she can hulk out in a matter of seconds, recovering from giant bear trap wounds shouldn't take too long, right?\
Edit: In fixing the page I accidentally removed the text! Here it is, fixed properly!]]>
From the preview sketches I posted on Twitter and Tumblr, people were guessing the new character was a centaur or satyr! Sorry. It's just another nun. XD]]>
Lupo really could stand to pick his battles a little better.]]>
Very witty comeback, Lupo.]]>
Yet another new character introduced! Here is her full design:" ]]>
The man isn't named "Alpha-ji." The two heads of the pack are the Alphas and are both referred to by that title. "Ji" is a gender-neutral honorific used as a suffix in Hindustani and many other languages of the Indian subcontinent. (Similar to "san" in Japanese.)
"Jani" denotes endearment rather than respect and, in some contexts, can denote intimacy or even a romantic relationship. (Such as these Alphas, who are an old couple.) More info on the terms here!
The more you know!" ]]>
I really enjoyed designing Lupo's parents. More info about them to be revealed soon! In the meantime, here are their very rough concepts:
And here's Lupo's design/color reference in case anyone wanted to draw him:
