@Setsuna_C Yeah, it got unexpectedly huge. And I haven't even been posting about it in months! It's mostly died down now. http://twitter.com/yamino8 hours ago
It was only a matter of time. I drew Claire and Gabrielle in the style of “Panty and Stocking,” which is probably about to become my new favorite anime. For the art style, at least. <3
If you haven’t heard of it already, it’s a new anime by Gainax. I love the art. T_T <3 It looks like this:
I promised to draw something when I got 1K followers on Twitter. I didn’t know what to do… people follow me for 3 main fandoms, and I didn’t want to end up disappointing anyone! So… I put my 3 main fandoms together.
LOVE YOU <3
P.S. If you want to support Sister Claire merch being printed at Topatoco, please consider buying my Telephone poster for yourself or a friend! They aren’t selling as well as expected, which is bad news as far as getting some Sister Claire things into the store. If you know a Gaga/Beyonce fan with an upcoming birthday, maybe this would make a good birthday present/early Kwanza gift/charity donation/colorful piece of toilet paper!
And then I thought about continuing her down below where the photo ends, and since I’ve been drawing a lot of mermaids lately, I was like "What about a Lady Gaga mermaid!? OH MY GOD!" and I was totally going to, but then I thought "Lady Naga" and I was like DUUUUUUUUUUUDE. And I just know she’d totally love this idea too, since she’s on her big monster kick right now. OH LADY GAGA I WISH I COULD MEET YOU and ask if I could make a comic all about you being a popstar naga. Since I probably will never get that chance, I’ll just assume you’d say yes, and put you in Sister Claire sometime. XD
By the way, she really DOES have a dress made of Kermit the frog dolls:
She’s gotten a lot of flack for it. I say it’s ADORABLE and HILARIOUS and AWESOME and I can’t believe she came up with it before I did. Never stop, Gaga.
More Sister Claire artwork, drawn in the styles that inspired me!
Gabrielle-Arthur de Pins Style by ~Yamino on deviantART
Arthur de Pins is an illustrator I learned about when I moved here to Belgium. The first trip I made to a Belgian comic store, I bought all of his books. =P He’s most famous for his series called “Pêches Mignons”:
It’s a play on words, because “pêche” can either mean “peach” or “sin.” XD I love styles that can mix cuteness and sexyness together, so naturally he rapidly became of my favorite artists.
This whole image was made in Illustrator, just like his work is. I can’t believe how freaking LONG it took. If course, I did have to teach myself some tricks which I never knew how to use before, like masking. It was surprisingly easy once I figured out how to do it, just very time consuming. I can’t imagine how he makes so much artwork this way! The upside is, now I have a vector file that I can scale to any size! I think I’ll put this in large format on my wall eventually. XD
Not much to add to this… the picture pretty much says it all. I have always been a huge PPG fan, and I’m pretty sure it’s influenced every comic I’ve made. This show was what inspired my first ever comic! It was a PPG fancomic, with two Mary Sue characters (one was a self-insert, Brownie, who makes a few cameos in Sister Claire!) and the other was my brother, “Bruiser.” Oh man, highschool times was crazy times…
Yesterday I did some more drawings with Stromphe and Hae-Hime. Unfortunately most of them were on paper so I didn’t get a chance to scan them.
However, here are two that I did on the tablet. Ok, before you look at the first one, let me explain that NO this is not a spoiler. It’s a parody of this horrible and infamous scene from a one-shot gay comic. (Click here for a un-worksafe scan of the page!) The infamous line is “Yaranaika?” which translated to something like “Wanna do it?” XD There’s been a million parodies of this, and so of course I had to do and throw my two cents in.
I also drew another silly picture of one of my old favorite anime/manga characters: Tomoyo Daidouji from Card Captor Sakura. Ever the skirt-chasing best-friend videotaper… XD
I know this isn’t at all related to the comic, except for perhaps the sense of humor and the drawing style, but I couldn’t keep it to myself. This is a Christmas present for my friend who loves South Park and cute girls… so I thought to myself, “Why not mix the two? It’ll be perfect.”
