So, Editor’s Day is coming up here at SCAD, and I’m planning to pitch this Dutch Blind Superhero story to DC and Marvel. That calls for a it more concept art, so here’s what I’ve been cooking up lately. (If you’re unfamiliar with this story, check the Nightingale tag at the bottom of this post, or click here.)
First off, another cover, this one is not totally polished, but I think it gets the idea across. It’s Sofie, without her Nightingale getup:
Next, two character designs. The first is Emily, Sofie’s deaf cousin, and Jack, Sofie’s guardian/bodyguard/butler. (Yes, I’m aware he looks rather effeminate… this is what I get for drawing cute girls too much! I’ll fix him up.)
And a few environment concepts- An average street in Amsterdam, and Sofie’s mansion:

I rather like Jack (although I always want to call old butlers with mustaches “Alfred”), I rather like the look he’s got — I don’t think he’s effeminate at all. He just looks happy… but that’s just me.
Also: is Sofie a superhero too!? That would be cool, either both of them fighting crime together, or being like “who is that other superheroine? why is she moving in on my territory? raar!” Regardless, I love the European setting; very original. <3
Ooh he looks pretty nice as he is.. like he used to be really really handsome when he was young
(actually, he *still* looks reallyreally.. ok shush, me.)
So this is a story concept you came up with?
I’m really loving the Amsterdam street-lights piccy
actually.. I just followed the Nightingale tag.
SUPERFRIKKINAWESOME. I just might start reading superhero comics myself
I love the blue roofed building. It reminds me of the Addams Family house.
This is a VERY interesting concept! It seems like you’re also inspired by the possibilities of this character. I’d love to see some comic page layouts, it might also be good practice for you when you make your pitch.
If this sees print I’d definitely buy it, because it will be awesome.
It this were to see print, I would buy it. I wouldn’t even wait the two whole years for it to come out in England (Freaking comic books being behind).
But yeah, it does look interesting.
I REALLY want to read this when you publish it. It looks really great. If you put it out in English I would totally buy it. Good luck!
