Ok, so some of you may be wondering what all these finals were that were taking me so long! At long last you can see what I was working on all this time.
Comics Painting: 4 Page Mixed Media project
I had to make a 4 page comic using mixed media… meaning more than just paint. I really went all out on this, even cutting off some of my own hair. (Hell, I needed a haircut anyway.) Some other materials used in this were the inside of an apple chip bag, plaster wrap for making casts, paper towels, cotton, papier-mâché, ink, watercolor, colored pencils, and acrylic.
Here are two other painted comics I did for the same class. This one was mostly scripted: A man with a briefcase walks through a field of wheat, surrounded by black birds. He finds a barn, heads towards it, opens that door, and… we got to decide what was inside. We were also limited to only 5 acrylic colors specified by the teacher.
This next two page comic was also mostly scripted for us. A couple (any type) are walking down a post apocalyptic beach, when one of them decides to check out a cave while the other one waits outside. Character A goes in, Character B hears a scream, Character A comes running out… and again, we get to decide what was inside. Sadly, I never got to finish this watercolor project, but I think I like these characters enough to include them in another story. =)
Other painting work I did this quarter:
This is a painting with a Little Red Riding Hood theme that I made for my Water Based media class. Unfortunately, the photo quality isn’t that great. The innuendo was accidental at first, but once I saw it there I had to play it up. If she reminds you of someone, you may recall a blind character I posted some digital paintings of before, Sofie Thorne. That’s who I modeled her after. =)
And this was my first watercolor project, a still life which I photographed myself using miscellaneous things on my desk. =)
I thought you might find it interesting to see what I’m doing when I’m not working on Sister Claire. XD I don’t know if I developed a real taste for painting, but at least I’m over my phobia of it now.

This is awesome stuff. I LOVE your other styles. These painted comics are excellent.
Evil black ducks and a girl under wolf skin
AWESOME!
is not that “realistic” as you said (except for the still life) but it’s pretty cool, i likeed most of them
PsyDei: Yeah, by “realistic” I meant “more realistic than Sister Claire.” XD
Letizia: Yes, I was! As you can see, she’s also wearing the signet ring in the last page, and there’s rose and swords and… everything Utena-y. That character (and also Sofie Thorne, the one I used as a model for Red) are one of three original RP characters I made for a Utena-based forum roleplay. I know, I’m such a dork. XD;;
Your work is really impressive !
By the way, the upside down castle looks familiar… Were you inspired by Utena ?
The third painting in the first set reminds me of Utena, the revolutionary girl.
I love that I can just see your familiar facial style in “The Beach.”
You know, the funny thing about the Red Riding Hood innuendo was that it’s actually not that far off… the original story had major themes involving sex. Virginity is symbolized by the bottle of whatever liquid she carries in the story), the act of being.. “eaten” by the wolf is intercourse. The red hood is menstruation and puberty. The wolf is about sexual impulses, specifically about teenage sex, in her case, and her mother/grandmother that she was going to visit are the society oppressing her teen sexuality…
Sorry, this was probably much more than you wanted to know. I really enjoyed looking at all of these photos, but I just had to toss in my two cents about Red Riding Hood and her innuendos.
Yes, I was totally aware of this when I painted it. I don’t know if the original story really was meant to be that specific with its metaphors, but I am certain there definitely were meant to be innuendos in the theme. For me, the story seems more about pedophilia than teenage sex (Little Red is always portrayed as a very young girl, preteen in most of the depictions I’ve seen. Even in the very old pictures of her, she sometimes seems to be about 8 years old.)
In my painting, I wanted it to be uncertain… did she kill the wolf and put on his pelt, as a symbol of dominance? Or is the wolf pelt mounting her in a metaphor of rape? I agree with your interpretation of her basket of goods symbolizing her virginity in the original story, hence me giving it a weird phallic innuendo here. I dunno. I had a lot of fun with this. XD
The Little Read Riding Hood picture looks like a great example of the Gaia item. . . .kewl.
Ooo I definitely have that mug. Mine doesn’t live in a mortar next to a pestle though.
i’m drinking from that exact mug right now…
