So, a couple people have been asking me if I need donations to get my computer repaired.  Thankfully, my Applecare plan covered the entire repair, so I won’t be charged a cent.  All I have to do now is wait for them to call me when I can pick it up. =)

But if you are feeling generous, there are some people who REALLY need support!

By now you must have heard about the earthquake in Haiti.  it was a 7.0- the highest on the earthquake scale. Haiti was already the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and now they have less than nothing.  Relief efforts are spread thinly, and getting to victims is difficult because the roads have mostly been destroyed.  On top of that, the quake has destroyed the main jail in the ravaged capital, releasing countless dangerous inmates, including murderers, thieves, and sexual predators.

Like me, you might be willing to help, but cautious about who you donate to.  Don’t donate to small local charities, they are often fraudulent and you can’t be sure your money is going directly to the victims.  If you want to donate with confidence, please send your donations to UNICEF and the Red Cross.

They are the most trustworthy charities, and because they buy supplies such as water-purifying tablets, food, and medical equipment in bulk, they pay much less for their relief items and so literally every penny you send them will be saving lives.

I am donating money I’ve made from ads on Sister Claire to help the victims in Haiti.  I’d been saving it to start my own ad campaign (I haven’t been advertising Sister Claire through project Wonderful for several months) but I think it will be far better spent helping people in Haiti get the aid they need.  I urge all my readers and fellow artists to consider doing the same, even an amount as small as 1 dollar will make a difference to a victim.

Thanks to Ivy-chan for pointing out Help Haiti, an LJ community dedicated to fanart and fanfic auctions, with the money being donated to several legit charities, including UNICEF and Red Cross. It’s a good chance for you to get some art/fic and save lives at the same time. =)

I plan on donating some of my artwork to them, as soon as I get my computer back. I’ll let you know when it is available for auction. Speaking of which, any suggestions for what sort of art I should action? It doesn’t have to be Sister Claire related.

Also, does anyone know of any Web-comic auctions or charities related to the earthquake in Haiti? Please let me know, I’d like to join.

On the subject of Haiti, I found this webcomic called Starthrower, which talks about one person’s charity efforts in the country. It’s really down-to-earth and gives you a realistic view of how unfortunate the situation was even before the earthquake. I’m reading it now, and I’d recommend it to anyone interested in what their donations are going towards.
